Coupled substitution of Nb(V) and Si(IV) for Ti(IV) and P(V)/As(V) in KTiOP04 (KTP) and KTiOAsO4 (KTA) giving new series of nonlinear optical materials, KTi1-xNbxOX1-xSixO4 (X=P,As), has been investigated. Substitution up to x = 0.40 readily occurs, the members retaining the orthorhombic (Pna2(1)) structure of KTP. The second harmonic generation (SHG) property of the parent KTP and KTA is not adversely affected by the coupled substitution. SHG intensity of the powder samples of the X = P series shows a slight increase with x up to x = 0.15; for 0.15 < x less-than-or-equal-to 0.40, there is a decrease in SHG intensity as compared to that for KTP. A similar trend in SHG intensity is seen for the arsenic analogs.

Potassium titanyl phosphate (KTP) and its isomorphs have received enormous attention in the last 2 decades. In particular, KTP assumes importance due to its large nonlinear optic and electrooptic coefficients together with the broad thermal and angular acceptance for second harmonic generation. This article provides an overview of the material aspects, structural, physical, and chemical properties and device feasibility of the KTP family of crystals. Some of the current areas of research and development along with their significance in understanding the physical properties as well as device applications are addressed. Optical waveguide fabrication processes and characteristics with their relevance to the present-day technology are highlighted. Studies performed so far have enabled us to understand the fundamental aspects of these materials and what needs to be pursued vigorously is the exploitation of their device applications to the maximum extent.

A novel selective fluorescent chemosensor based on naphthalimide derivatives (AN-SB) was synthesized and characterized. Once combined with Cu2+, compound AN-SB could give rise to a visible yellow to orange color change and fluorescence quenching, while other metal ions showed subtle disturbance. The complex (AN-SB-Cu2+) formed by Cu2+ and AN-SB displayed high specificity for H2PO4-. Among the various anions, only H2PO4- induced the revival of color and fluorescence of AN-SB, resulting in "off-on" type sensing of H2PO4- anion. The signal transduction occured via reversible formation-separation of complex AN-SB-Cu2+, however, slight changes were observed in the presence of other anions. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. Results of axiswise measurements of the electrical conductivity (dc and ac) and dielectric constant of NH4H2PO4 confirm the occurrence of the recently suggested high‐temperature phase transition in this crystal (at 133 °C). The corresponding transition in ND4D2PO4 observed here for the first time takes place at 141.5 °C. The mechanism involved in these transitions and those associated with the electrical conduction and dielectric anomalies are explained on the basis of the motional effects of the ammonium ions in these crystals. Conductivity values for deuterated crystals give direct evidence for the predominance of protonic conduction throughout the entire range of temperatures studied (30–260 °C).

Choline dihydrogen phosphate ([N1.1.1.2OH]DHP) and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium dihydrogen phosphate ([C4mim]DHP) were synthesized as a new class of proton-conducting ionic plastic crystals. Both [N1.1.1.2OH]DHP and [C4mim]DHP showed solid–solid phase transition(s) and showed a final entropy of fusion lower than 20 J K−1 mol−1 which is consistent with Timmerman’s criterion for molecular plastic crystals. The ionic conductivity of [N1.1.1.2OH]DHP was in the range of 10−6 S cm−1–10−3 S cm−1 in the plastic crystalline phase. On the other hand, the ionic conductivity of [C4mim]DHP showed about 10−5 S cm−1 in the plastic crystalline phase. [N1.1.1.2OH]DHP showed one order of magnitude higher ionic conductivity than [C4mim]DHP in the temperature range where the plastic phase is stable.

Choline dihydrogen phosphate has previously been shown to be a good ionic conductor as well as an excellent host for acid doping, leading to high proton conductivities required for e.g., electrochemical devices including proton membrane fuel cells and sensors. A combination of variable-temperature 1H solid-state NMR and 2D NMR pulse sequences, including 31P and 13C CODEX and 1H BaBa, show that the proton conduction mechanism primarily involves assisted transport via a restricted three-site motion of the phosphate unit around the P–O bond that is hydrogen bonded to the choline and exchange of protons between these anions. In other words, proton transport at ambient temperatures appears to occur most favorably along the crystallographic b axis, from phosphate dimer to dimer. At elevated temperatures exchange between the protons of the hydroxyl group on the choline cation and the hydrogen-bonded dihydrogen phosphate groups also contributes to the structural diffusion of the protons in this solid state conductor.

Mixtures of the plastic crystal material choline dihydrogen phosphate [Choline][DHP] and phosphoric acid, from 4.5 mol% to 18 mol% H3PO4, were investigated and shown to have significantly higher proton conductivity compared to the pure [Choline][DHP]. This was particularly evident from the electrochemical hydrogen reduction reaction and the proton NMR diffusion measurements, in addition to ionic conductivity measured from the impedance spectroscopy. The ionic conductivity was observed to increase by more than an order of magnitude in phase I (i.e. the highest temperature solid phase in [Choline][DHP]) reaching up to 10−2 S cm−1. The multinuclear NMR spectroscopy data suggest that, at least on the timescale of the NMR measurement, the H+ cations and [DHP] anions are equivalent in both phases. The pulsed field gradient NMR diffusion measurements of the 18 mol% acid sample indicate that all three ions are mobile, however the H+ diffusion coefficient is an order of magnitude higher than for the [Choline] cation or the [DHP] anion, and therefore conduction in these materials is dominated by proton conductivity. The thermal stability, as measured by TGA, is unaffected with increasing acid additions and remains high; i.e. no significant mass loss below 200 °C.

Probe-beam deflection (PBD) was used to monitor concentration gradients of anions adjacent to the surface of a platinum electrode in acidic aqueous media containing H3PO4. PBD can measure the potential-dependent extent of adsorption of H2PO4- on the Pt electrode surface and permits the Langmuir isotherm to be fitted to the experimental data. The value thus obtained for the surface concentration was 1.3 × 10-11 mol mm -2, or 1.7 atoms of Pt per H2PO4-. Also, the electron transfer number obtained was 0.24, signifying an incomplete transfer of charge, and the equilibrium constant is 1.80 suggesting a reversible adsorption process. © 2005 Elsevier B.V. The efficient generation of second-harmonic light and squeezed light requires non-linear crystals that have low absorption at the fundamental and harmonic wavelengths. In this work the photo-thermal self-phase modulation technique is exploited to measure the absorption coefficient of periodically poled potassium titanyl phosphate (PPKTP) at 1,550 nm and 775 nm. The measurement results are (84 +/- 40) ppm/cm and (127 +/- 24) ppm/cm, respectively. We conclude that the performance of state-of-the-art frequency doubling and squeezed light generation in PPKTP is not limited by absorption.

Ultraviolet radiation has been generated by tangentially phase-matched sum-frequency mixing in biaxial L-arginine phosphate (LAP) crystal for the first time using Nd:YAG output at 1064 nm and Rh 6G dye laser output at 560 nm as the two input sources. Characterization has also been made of such a cheap, biaxial crystal for its possible use in devices for tangentially phase-matched short wavelength generation. If the crystal is of proper cut, thickness and quality so that its maximum capability can be exploited it can replace the potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP) group of crystals for various applications.

We report second harmonic generation in a new class of organic materials, namely donor-acceptor substituted all-trans butadienes doped in poly(methyl methacrylate) or polystyrene and oriented by corona poling at elevated temperatures. Second harmonic measurements were made at room temperature. The observed d33 coefficients are greater than those of potassium dihydrogen phosphate or 4-dimethylamino-4'-nitrostilbene doped in similar polymer matrices. Rotational diffusion coefficients estimated from the decay characteristics of the second harmonic intensity in the polymer films indicate that the polymer matrix plays a major role in stabilizing the dopants in a nonlinear optics conducive environment.

A gain amplifier for degenerated optical parametric chirped-pulse amplification (OPCPA) with lithium triborate and cesium lithium borate (CLBO) crystals was demonstrated in a near-collinear configuration, The signal gain of the final energy amplifier with CLBO was similar to 6. After compression, the 123 fs pulse duration was obtained. Compared with potassium dihydrogen phosphate, it is confirmed that CLBO is more effective as a nonlinear crystal in a final power amplifier for terawatt or petawatt OPCPA systems. To our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of OPCPA with CLBO. (c) 2006 Optical Society of America.

红发夫酵母分离于北美西部高山地区和日本一些岛屿上落叶树的渗出液中,因其所产主要色素为在水产养殖、食品和医药工业有广阔应用前景的虾青素而成为研究的热点。本论文对红发夫酵母Phaffia rhodozyma 的生长特性、培养参数与培养基组分对生长和虾青素积累的影响及其优化、虾青素合成的调节控制、虾青素的提取测定及红发夫酵母耐高温菌种的诱变进行了系统的研究。 虾青素是红发夫酵母的胞内色素,要对其进行分析首先要对红发夫酵母进行破壁处理,实验发现二甲亚砜是最有效的破壁溶剂,用氯仿和丙酮可以有效地把类胡萝卜素从二甲亚砜破壁后的红发夫酵母细胞中提取出来。 在固定摇床转速为200 rpm,温度为20 ℃的条件下,当种龄为36 h,以10%的接种量接入装液量为30 mL的250 mL三角瓶,初始pH为5.5时最有利于红发夫酵母的生长及类胡萝卜素的合成。 本实验中红发夫酵母最佳利用碳、氮源分别为蔗糖和蛋白胨,但蛋白胨价格昂贵,不适宜作单一氮源,因此使用硫酸铵和酵母膏作为复合氮源。 本论文采用了BP神经网络结合遗传算法的方法来优化红发夫酵母的发酵培养基,得到红发夫酵母发酵培养基的最佳配比为:蔗糖45.10 g/L、硫酸铵3.00 g/L、硫酸镁0.80 g/L、磷酸二氢钾1.40 g/L、酵母膏3.00 g/L、氯化钙0.50 g/L,使用优化后的培养基发酵类胡萝卜素产量达到8.20 mg/L,干重达到9.47 g/L,类胡萝卜素的产量比起始培养基提高了95.90%,干重提高了89.40%。 从代谢途径出发对红发夫酵母合成虾青素调控调控,选择谷氨酸、乙醇、VB1作为添加剂,通过正交试验设计得出三者添加水平分别为0.2 g/L,0.1% (V/V),10 mg/L时,类胡萝卜素产量提高了25.73%,达到了10.31mg/L。 通过上述优化培养,本论文中红发夫酵母的虾青素产量从1.33 mg/L提高到9.12 mg/L,产量提高了6.86倍;总类胡萝卜素产量从4.23 mg/L提高到10.31 mg/L,产量提高了2.44倍;细胞干重从5.00 g/L提高到11.35 g/L,提高了2.27倍,总体提高效果显著。 红发夫酵母属于中低温菌,本论文采用紫外复合诱变的方式,通过高温筛选,得到一株能在35 ℃下能生长的突变株,但所产类胡萝卜素中虾青素所占比例很小,可能是诱变改变了红发夫酵母的代谢途径,阻断了虾青素的合成。 Phaffia rhodozyma is a heterobasidiomyceteous yeast that was originally isolated from the slime fluxes of brich tree wounds in mountain regions of northern Japan and southern Alaska. Phaffia rhodozyma produces astaxanthin as its principal carotenoid pigment, which has potential applications in acquaculture, food and pharmaceutical industry. This paper researched ways to break cell, analysis of astaxanthin, characteristics of growth, culture parameters and the effects of components of medium on growth and astaxanthin formation , optimization of culture medium, control of astaxanthin synthesis and mutagenesis of Phaffia rhodozyma. It is necessary to disrupt the yeast cell for extracting astaxanthin considering the yeast accumulating carotenoids in cell. Dimethyisulphoxide was the most effective solvent for breaking the yeast cell; acetone and chloroform were effective to extract carotenoids out of the disrupted cell. The optimum pH for growth and carotenoids synthesis is 5.5, the optimum medium volume is 30 mL (in 250 mL flask), the optimum culture time of inoculum is 36 h, the optimum inoculum concentration is 10%. The research on culture medium showed: sucrose is the best one of 6 carbon sources for growth and astaxanthin synthesis. Peptone is the best nitrogen source for growth and astaxanthin synthesis. Uniform Design was used for trial design of the formula medium components, then back-propagation neural network was established to modeling the relationships between the carotenoid yield and the concentration of medium components. Genetic algorithm (GA) was used for global optimization of the model. The optimum combination of the medium was obtained: sucrose 45.10 g/L, ammonium sulfate 3.00 g/L, magnesium sulfate 0.80 g/L, potassium dihydrogen phosphate 1.40 g/L, yeast extract 3.00 g/L, calcium chloride 0.50 g/L. The yield of carotenoid reached 8.20 mg/L, which was 95.90% higher than that of the original medium. Glu, VB1 and ethanol were selected as fermentation addictives, after Orthogonal Test, the carotenoid contents increased by 25.73% when adding 0.16 g/L Glu, VB1 10 mg/L and ethanol 0.1% (V/V). After the above optimization, the astaxanthin content increased 6.86 folds, which is 9.12 mg/L. The carotenoids content increased 2.44 folds, which is 10.31 mg/L. The biomass increased 2.27 folds, which is 11.35 g/L. Phaffia rhodozyma grows in the mild temperature range of 0 to 27 ℃, in this work, a thermotolerant mutant was selected through UV-irradiation. It can grows at 35 ℃, and showed increased carotenoid content. The optimal growth temperature for this mutant is 30 ℃. But the mutant can only produce carotenoids with little astaxanthin accumulation.

The frequencies of the stretching vibration and the bending vibration of the 0-H ... 0 bond in potassium dihydrogen phosphate have been calculated by means of two semiempirical formulae with three parameters. The calculated results can give satisfactory explanation for the experimental spectra of the potassium dihydrogen phosphate crystal. The parameters used in the calculations may be related to the chemical bonding and the charge distribution about the two oxygen atoms of the 0-H ... 0 bond system.
